Journey

My Path to Public Speaking

As a child, I gravitated towards art. What started as a habit of drawing morphed into a love for ceramics and writing. I didn’t connect the dots back then, but this all led to my love of communication.

Born into a family enveloped in my dad’s tool sales business, I was constantly surrounded by the art of communication. Smiling and dialing at 16, I quickly knew that I didn’t want to sell tools, but I was amazed by my father’s craft. The energy, the quick decisions, and the art of words all fascinated me.

My artistic passions led me exactly where you’d expect, wealth management.

Unlikely, yes, but it turned out to be exactly what I needed to further hone my ability to communicate. The commoditized nature of the business means, you are selling yourself with communication being the backbone of that.

I wanted to take my communication skills to the next level, and there was no place more uncomfortable to do so than in public, so I joined Toastmasters. What began as a means of improving my speaking skills developed a sincere passion for the spoken word, became a means of influence, and kept that competitive fuel firing through annual competitions.

Outside of speaking, I’ll take any excuse I can to move my body. A born weightlifter (not kidding, was in the gym at 8 years old) turned exercise enthusiast, you will regularly find me in the gym, on a run or walk, or my most recent attempt, surfing (a work in progress).

My life also started a new chapter as I recently married the love of my life, Taylor. She’s my best friend, biggest supporter, and a huge reason for this business.
